سیریز دہم : تصویری مسافت

بھلا ہو ورلڈ بنک کا جس نے ڈاکٹر سلطان محمود کو تصویری بنک بنانے کی عادت ڈال دی۔ حالانکہ انہوں نے محض دس برس کی عمر میں جیب خرچ بچا کر کوڈک کا دس روپے کا کیمرہ 1967 میں ہی خرید لیا تھا اور اپنے بھائی ہمایوں شوکت کے واحد جس تحفے  کی وہ قدر کرتے تھے وہ  اس کا امریکہ سے لایا  ہواکیمرہ یاشیکا 124 تھا۔ ایسے ہی ان کے استعمال  میں وارسا پولینڈ میں روسی کیمرے  “زینتھ”، جرمن  “پیٹنس” اور جاپانی “نیکن”کیمرے بھی رہے لیکن پھر ڈیجٹل کیمروں اور موبائل کیمروں نے تو انہیں نہال ہی کر دیا۔ ان کے پاس بزرگوں کے علاوہ  مشاہیرِ زمانہ کی بیشمار تصاویر بھی موجود ہیں جو ہر وقت ان کے لیپ ٹاپ اور سیل فونز کی سپیس کھاتی نظر آتی ہیں۔ اس مشکل کے ہاتھوں انہوں نے مجبور ہو کر اور میاں وقارالاسلام کی صلاح لے کر فیصلہ کیا ہے کہ اپنی زندگی کی کہانی کی دسویں سیریز  کو البم کی شکل میں  بنائیں گے۔جو بنا  دینے کے بعد وہ بچوں کی طرح خوش ہیں، کہ اب انہیں  ” ماس ڈرائیوز” ساتھ ساتھ لیے پھرنے کی ضرورت نہیں ہو گی۔

Series Ten: Visual Journey

Dr. Sultan Mahmood’s love for photography began at a young age. In 1967, at just 10 years old, he saved his pocket money to purchase a Kodak camera for ten rupees, later appreciating a gift from his brother Humayun Shaukat—a Yashica 124 camera that had been brought from the United States. Over the years, he used various cameras, including Russian “Zenith,” German “Petens,” and Japanese “Nikon,” before eventually embracing digital and mobile cameras. His collection includes countless photographs, not only of elders but also of contemporary luminaries. These images constantly occupy space on his laptops and mobile phones. Faced with the challenge of managing this growing collection, he decided to compile his life’s story in a photo album. After consulting with Waqarul Islam, he found great joy in this decision, as it meant he no longer needed to carry multiple “mass drives” around. Now, he cherishes the photos in a more organized format, relishing the process of creating the album and the memories it holds.
